The Legend Of Chin
Overview
If Rock and Roll can wake us up, then Switchfoot’s third album, Learning to Breathe is an alarm. Challenging the frozen aspects of the world and the church, the songs are ringing with the chorus of redemption. Switchfoot confronts us with the sobering fact that our faith and love has nowhere to happen but here on this planet, right now. Learning to Breathe is imbued with a wide-eyed, large-hearted, soaring (yet wonderfully grounded) vision of human life in all its wonder.
For those who have followed Switchfoot through their previous albums, The Legend of Chin and New Way To Be Human, their latest preoccupations will come as no surprise. The California based trio has been playing guitar-driven songs of depth and energy for nearly five years. This album, however, is certainly their strongest effort yet. According to Switchfoot front man Jon Foreman, “These are melodies of change, songs of expectancy. I desire to see God's kingdom come in my life and in the world around me. This hope rests on the tension between a fallen world and a redemptive God who cries out, ‘Behold I make all things new.’”
